Tuesday 22nd April 2008

Emotions were the talk of the day at St Joseph’s Primary School Crumlin on Thursday 18th April,, when the school hosted an event for the Department of Finance and Personnel, after winning the “Best Practice” Award.

The event was opened by Mr Will Haire (Permanent Secretary for Department of education) and attracted many people from a variety of areas in the Public Sector, Education and Business.

This event was hosted by St Joseph’s to disseminate their Best Practice among other organisations in using Emotional Intelligence (EI) to build leadership capacity and prepare for the future. The school believes Emotional Intelligent leadership is the key to their school being successful and believe that the core elements of EI can be applied within other organisations

The school has been developing Emotional Intelligence at all levels of leadership over the past three years. It was initiated with the review of the management structure and a unique and progressive approach was taken, which involved developing new strategies and processes, resulting in the emergence of emotionally intelligent leaders at all levels of the school.

This initiative has had a major impact on the whole school community and the outcomes include, the integral approach to managing change, creative strategic planning and positive relationships at all levels whereby teamwork and collegiality operate at an advanced level across the school.
