Shoe Box Appeal

Tuesday 27th October 2009

Last year the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal was an unbelievable success. Once again THANK YOU!

On Wednesday 21st October 2009 Fiona Kelly and her sister Geraldine attended our assemblies in school and thanked all the children for their outstanding generosity. They showed the children a DVD of the shoe boxes being loaded on to the lorries in Rasharkin and arriving at their destination in Croatia. Without a doubt St Joseph’s PS had the largest number of shoe boxes which had been prepared with pure love and thoughtfulness.

They also showed a DVD on a new project they are hoping to develop this year and are asking our support again this year. Their friend Sr Patricia is working with children who roam the streets in PERU. Sr Patricia is asking for financial support. She has outlined the cost of different essential items needed in her work.

1 POUND- Box of pencils
4 POUND- School notebooks for the year
6 POUND- A visit to the doctor or dentist with treatment
10 POUND- A pair of shoes
15 POUND- Could buy a school uniform for a child
25 POUND- Could feed a child for a whole year in the school canteen
25 POUND- Could buy a single bed and a blanket.

We in St Joseph’s are hoping to support both projects, the Shoe Box Appeal and PERU.
Each year group will take responsibility for providing for ONE charity. We can again avoid the stress of buying Christmas presents for our teachers and ensure that our young needy friends in other parts of the world are as happy as we can make them.

The shoe boxes need to be ready for collection on 23rd November. Please read the leaflet which will provide all the information you need to prepare the shoe boxes. Remember they are very short of presents for the elderly and teenagers.
More information will be provided on the school web so keep watching for the next piece of news.

Elaine and Geraldine carry out this dedicated work on a full time voluntary basis and we have to admire and ask God’s blessings on them.
