St. Joseph's are South West Champions!
The St. Joseph’s Gaelic football squad have been training hard this year. After a narrow defeat in the Indoor five-a-side final in January they were determined to give their all. As the school mini bus pulled into Creggan’s ground the St. Joseph’s lads began to prepare themselves for the task at hand.
Thirteen schools had arrived and our school was placed into Section three with St. Mary’s, Portglenone, St. Colmcille’s, Ballymena and St. Brigid’s, Ballymena. Each member of the team proved their worth as they battled hard and won each game in their section.
Mount St. Michael’s played the host team, Creggan, in one semi final and Mount St. Michael’s won.St. Joseph’s Dunloy played ourselves in the other semi-final and after a tough semi-final we were delighted to be through to the final.
The final between Mount St Michael’s and ourselves was fast paced, exciting and close. Mount St. Michael’s took an early lead with two goals, one from a penalty and one from play. We came back with three points and a goal to make the sides level. After great play and a valiant effort from both teams we edged ahead with a point and finally secured our win with a last minute goal. The final score was St. Joseph’s 2-4 Mount St. Michael’s 2-0. The boys now will face the Belfast champions at Casement.
