  • Year 3 Visit the Men's Shed

    Mon 24 Apr 2023

P3 visited the Crumlin Men’s Shed. During our visit we found out lots of information about the old school. We saw the assembly hall, principal’s office and the one classroom. We even saw where the fire was to keep the children warm during their school day!

This was a lovely learning experience which linked with the topic we have just completed ‘School’s Cool.’ We also found out all about growing vegetables, fruits, flowers and trees. We went inside the poly tunnels and observed how the plants were watered etc. We also found out how the Men’s Shed is helping our local community, this was a great opportunity as our current topic is ‘Out and About.’ We really enjoyed the visit!

A Book is a Dream You Hold in Your Hand!

Thank you to all who supported our recent Scholastic Book Fair in school.  We now have £2,350 to spend on books for our children.  How amazing is that?  We will spend the money supplementing our school reading scheme, adding to our bank of books for the Accelerated Reading Programme and on the purchase of books for the lending library in our Nursery Unit.  Well done and many again many thanks!

  • St Joseph’s Awarded ‘Living Places and Spaces’ Grant

    Wed 19 Apr 2023

We are delighted to announce that we have secured the grand total of £9,500 from ‘Living Places and Spaces Fund’ delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund. This money will be used to develop more of the outdoor learning environment in our school.

Mr McKenna and Mrs Downey will be working together with some of the children in the school to see how we can create additional exciting outdoor space for our learning. After the successful development of our Science Courtyard, Sensory Garden and Forest School area, we are very excited about the opportunity to develop other areas in our school for use by everyone.

There will be areas of planting, investigative work, Forest School activities as well as encouraging more wildlife to our school. We will also be able to use these areas for the Eco team and with our Shared Education partners.

We look forward to working with our local community to help create this space for us all to enjoy!

  • Easter Charity Campaign

    Wed 05 Apr 2023

We launched our Hope Mission Zambia Charity Campaign at the beginning of Lent with our Copper Coin Challenge.  Throughout Lent all classes were collecting 1p and 2p coins.  We have been amazed at the response with a fantanstic £672 being raised in coppers in only five weeks.  Congratulations to all the classes on such a sterling effort.  A special congratulations to Mrs Haughian/Ms O'Brien's Year 4 class and Mrs Matthew's Year 5 classes who were the highest collectors in the school and will be awarded with a class party supplied by Mr Traynor.

During Holy Week our charity campaign continued.  There were lots of activities organised to include Colouring Competitions, Bring a Toy Day, Nursery Easter Bonnet Parade, an Easter Bun Sale and Name the Duck - this year it was called 'Puddles' and was won by Dillon.  Our Year 7 pupils were amazing and organised a host of stalls making, decorating and selling a variety of products.  They were just amazing - fabulous creativity and entrepreneurial skills on display.  Total raised, a fabulous £705!

We look forward to announcing our final total when we return to school after the Easter Break.  Well done to all and thank you for your continued genorisity and support!
