Congratulations to Ruairi who represented his school and club at the Cumann na mBunscol half time game during the Antrim v Down Championship match in Páirc Esler, Newry. Well done Ruairi!
There have been lots of amazing individual and class achievements with our Accelerated Reading Programme during Term 2. The word count continues to rise along with the number of Word Millionaires. During Term 2 we have our first Word Multi-Millionaire, Laura Freeman (Year 5) with a word count of 2,047,443.
Today it was the turn of Mrs. Campbell's Year 5 class to celebrate as deserving class winners from Term 2. There were rewarded with a class party for their efforts.
Keep up the excellent reading ...... who will be our class winners in Term 3?

Our Year 7 pupils begin their last term in St Joseph's today. To mark this occassion they were presented with their Leavers' Hoodies which they can wear to school throughout Term 3. Don't they all look so well? Enjoy your final term girls and boys - there's lots to look forward to!
Our Eco-Council monitor our solar panel readings throughout the year. Today they were delighted to announce that our solar panels have generated £1269.73 over the course of the last year.
Monies will be allocated to our school's LMS Electricity code and should result in a reduction in overall costs.

Over the last few months we at St Joseph’s PS along with Crumlin Integrated PS have been involved in a Cross Community Workshop with Peace Players.
Through the use of sport, and in particular basketball, this project aimed to promote respect and mutual understanding between children from different backgrounds, as well as addressing controversial issues. The two Year 7 classes involved had already worked together through our Shared Education Partnership, so this was another way of consolidating friendships and visiting each others schools. We also had an opportunity to meet in our local Leisure Centre.
The project was funded by Clanmill Housing Association and we thank them for this valuable opportunity. Our local community in Crumlin also supported us. Tesco Crumlin and Crumlin Resident Collective provided us with some refreshments and Mark at Stylus Engraving Crumlin helped to make up reward bags to celebrate the end of the event by supplying us with medals.
This was indeed a very successful project with new skills learned in addition to having lots of fun along the way!

We would like to wish our school community a very Happy and
Egg-citing Easter Break.
From all at St Joseph's!
We launched our Trócaire Campaign at the beginning of Lent with our Copper Coin Challenge. Throughout Lent all classes were collecting 1p and 2p coins. We have been amazed at the response with a fantastic £709 being raised in coppers in only five weeks. Congratulations to all the classes on such a sterling effort. A special congratulations to Mrs. Loughran's Year 4 class who were the highest collectors in the school with a total of £80.22 and will be awarded with a class party supplied by Mr. Traynor.
During Holy Week our charity campaign continued. There were lots of activities organised to include Colouring Competitions, Bring a Toy Day, Nursery Easter Bonnet Parade and Name the Duck - this year it was called 'Lucky' and was won by Caleb Fawcett. Our Year 7 pupils were amazing and organised a host of stalls making, decorating and selling a variety of products. They were just amazing - fabulous creativity and entrepreneurial skills on display. Total raised so far, a fabulous £723!
We look forward to announcing our final total when we return to school after the Easter Break. Well done to all and thank you for your continued generosity and support.

Many thanks to our Year 6 children on their wonderful Easter assembly.
They presented 'The Way of the Cross' to the children in Years 4-7 and to parents, family and friends in a very meaningful and powerful manner which allowed all present to reflect on the key days and moments of the Easter season.
Thanks also to the Year 6 staff who guided the children in what was a very poignant and reflective ceremony and to Mr. McCann in the canteen for providing some lovely refreshments.
'Because by thy holy cross, thou hast redeemed the world'.
Many congratulations to all the boys and girls who received Subject, Accelerated Reading, Pupil of the Month, and Principal Awards at our Easter Awards Assemblies.
Year 3 and Year 7 also finished their Paired Reading Programme today and were presented with certificates to mark the completion of this special and very beneficial initiative.
You are all superstars - Well done everyone!
Such eggsitement in our Nursery Unit today with some 'cracking' Easter bonnets on parade. Congratulations to all who took part. The Easter Bunny hid some very special treats along the way. However, all the boys and girls searched very hard and managed to find where he had hidden all those lovely chocolate eggs!
Thank you so much to the parents who came along and took time to create the wonderful pieces of art the children wore.
And how wonderful to feature in the front page of Wednesday's 'Irish News'
Happy Easter!
