Many thanks to all who supported the recent fund raiser. A total of £750 was raised which will go to the purchase of more i-Pads for our children.
It was election fever time in Years 4 to 7 this week as pupils got geared up for our Pupil Council elections once again! Lots of children applied using a specially designed application form where they had to explain why they would like a place on the Pupil Council. After all applications were processed, candidates had to read out their manifestos to their class mates, urging them to vote! Votes were then cast and posted into our ballot boxes! It was a tense time for many as the results came through, however, only one representative from each class could be successful! CONGRATULATIONS!! to all our successful candidates! We look forward to learning about the exciting ideas that you will be working on in this year!
Johnny from Sus trans came to tell our school that we had been selected out of a large number of local schools for a special Active School Travel Programme. He showed us his two bikes and gave out a few prizes. We are looking forward to seeing Johnny in school again to teach us about the best ways to keep active and healthy.
St Joseph's were the proud recipients of the 'Action Cancer Gold Award' held this week at the famous Titanic building in Belfast. Mrs Wray, Cassie McGann (Yr7 ) and David Teggart (Yr 7) were delighted to receive the Gold award on behalf of the school. The Gold award recognises that our school shows an outstanding commitment to promoting healthy activities for pupils and continues to improve pupils' lifestyles in a variety of different ways. Cassie and David, both dedicated members of our 'Funfit' class, received the Gold award plaque from Citybeat DJ Stephen Clements. The ceremony took place in a very grand room inside the Titanic Building. Children were treated to a buffet lunch after the ceremony and took the opportunity to have a look around the famous Titanic Slipways. Thank you to Action Cancer and Centra for inviting us along and awarding us our Gold Winner status. Congratulations again to St Joseph's for continuing to promote healthy eating and healthy lifestyles for all its pupils.
