Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
As a Titanic Belfast partnership School we were asked to participate in an art project to mark Titamic Belfast turning 10.
Our Year 7 children drew a picture related to Titanic (the ship and the city). All our Year 7 images will form part of a larger collage and we cannot wait to see the end result.

Many thanks to Mrs Anne Doran (Catholic Schools' Trustee Service) for all her work with our school over the past 7 years. Anne is now retiring after 45 years dedicated to Catholic Education. She joined us for the cutting of our First Confession Cake .. followed by a presentation from Ava (youngest pupil in our nursery school) and Lewis (oldest pupil in school) just to say thank you. Good Luck Anne .... wishing you a long, healthy and happy retirement form all at St Joseph's!
Congratulation to our wonderful Primary 3 boys and girls who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Father Colm today, Wednesday 23rd March, in Mater Dei Church. They were just amazing - a real credit to their families and their school. Well done boys and girls.
Today we celebrated the Feast Day of St Joseph in school. St Joseph is the patron saint of our school. Our Faith Group prepared an assembly for our whole school - it told the story of St Joseph. We all got to view the assembly virtually in our own classrooms. Thank you to the Faith Group and Mrs Loughran for sharing this with us today.
Today we celebarted the feast day of our patron saint, St Patrick - there was an amazing sea of green throughout the school.
Happy St Patrick's Day from everyone at St Joseph's!
Congratulations to our Year 2 pupils on their amazing St. Patrick's Day Assembly. The singing, dancing, drama and music were excellent really made us feel very proud to come from Ireland and celebrate our national saint in style. Their show just added to our Green Day celebrations and was shared virtually with all classes throughout the school. A big thank you to our Year 2 team who prepared the children so well. Congrats again to all involved!
Today it was the turn of Miss Walsh's Year 7 pupils to have a taster session in Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL). EFL is an emerging field in which horses and humans work together as guides and facilitators to help people enhance their life skills, improve emotional fitness and increase self-awareness. The pupils had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the very relaxing experience thanks to the expertise of Simone and her team at Tullynewbank Stables.
Today we celebrated success in our Accelerated Reading Programme achieved over the past 6 weeks. The programme is going from strength to strength and the collective number of words being read is just amazing!
Many congratulations to those boys and girls who have now read 100,000 words or more; to those 12 boys and girls for reaching 500,000 words so far this year and to Connlaith and Nathan (Year 7),and Sophia, Alexander, Ella and Eoin (Year 6) on becoming new Word Millionaires this year.
Keep up the great effort - fabulous commitment shown here to your reading!
This week we started our Paired Reading Programme between our Year 3 and Year 7 pupils. Year 3 children are paired with a Year 7 pupil for the duration of the programme and engage in three half-hour Paired Reading sessions per week, alongside their usual literacy and reading work.
With the support of their Year 7 partner, Year 3 pupils select their Paired Reading books from a stock of books especially selected for the programme. Indeed in the past our Paired Reading Programme has been shown to have had some excellent results for helping children to read, enjoy reading and developing a positive attitude to reading. We look forward to an enjoyable and successful programme this year!
We have been overwhelmed with the response to our Ukrainian Appeal - the generosity of our school community has just been amazing. We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who donated to this very worthy cause - all items sent in will be used to support those who now find themselves refugees as a result of this horiffic war. Many thanks also to Josh and his team who arranged for all items to be packed and transported to their destination!
