Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We launched our Trocaire Charity Campaign at the beginning of Lent with our Copper Coin Challenge. Throughout Lent all classes were collecting 1p and 2p coins. We have been amazed at the response with a fantanstic £984 being raised in coppers in only five weeks. Congratulations to all the classes on such a sterling effort. A special congratulations to Miss Haughian/Miss Keenan's Year 2 class and Mrs Campbell's Year 6 classes who were the highest collectors in the school and were awarded with a class party supplied by Mr Traynor.
During Holy Week our charity campaign continued. There were lots of activities organised to include Colouring Competitions, Bring a Toy Day, Name the Duck and an Easter Bun Sale. Our Year 7 pupils were amazing and organised a host of stalls making, decorating and selling a variety of products.
We look forward to announcing our final total after the Easter Break - we think this could be out highest total yet!
Many congratulations to all the boys and girls who received Subject, Accelerated Reading, Pupil of the Month and Principal Awards at our virtual Easter Awards Assembly. You are all superstars - Well done everyone!
Our Year 6 children prepared and recorded a wonderful Easter Passion Assembly. They spent time learning lines, choosing costumes and practising in the Assembly Hall. It was a lovely assembly to share with the school community at the start of Holy Week. Well done to everyone involved. Thanks also to the Year 6 staff who guided the children in what was a very poignant and reflective ceremony.
Congratulations to Mr McCullagh's Year 6 class for coming top of the leader board in our latest accelerated reading competition. It was a closely fought contest with Mrs Campbell's Year 6 class narrowly missing out on the top spot. We are delighted with how the children are using the programme and are amazed at the number of children who have achieved awards for 100,000 words and 500,000 words read. We even have AR Word Millionnaires and our first Triple AR Word Millionnaire this term.
Congratulations boys and girls - keep up the great effort!
Well done to the Boys' Gaelic Football Team who reached the semi-final stage at the 7-aside fooball tournament held today in Creggan. A great display of football and lots of fun had by all in attendance. Many thanks to Creggan for hosting a great day out!
This week we marked the end of another month in school with our virtual Golden Assemblies. This month it was the turn of Mrs McCallum's Year 1 class to lead our Year 1-2 Assembly and Mrs Lawlor's Year 3 pupils to lead our Year 3-7 Assembly.
Mrs MCallum's boys and girls delivered an assembly on the theme of 'Respect' and the assembly from Mrs Lawlor's boys and girls enabled us all to focus on our gifts and talentst. All of the children were wonderful representatives for their class and school.
We also had time to sing Happy Birthday to all of our March boys and girls as well as present our monthly awards and deliver some important messages. Indeed as it was April Fools Day on Friday the children in Year 3 -7 donned some very special masks to play an April Fools joke on Mr Traynor. Well done everyone - it's nearly Easter!
It was great to hear the sound of music coming from our school hall when choir rehearsals recommenced today. We look forward to listening to our choir, led by Mrs McDonnell, at our Year 4 First Holy Communion in May.
On Monday 28th March, we joined Crumlin Integrated PS and Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach on Google Meet to have a virtual Irish lesson. We learnt how to introduce ourselves and greetings such as hello, goodbye and how are you. We also learnt how to say and write the numbers 1-10 and a variety of colours. It was lovely to see our Shared Education friends on the screen, many of which we recognised from outside of school. Soon we will be meeting virtually again with Crumlin Integrated College who are going to lead us in a French lesson!
Today Year 5 had a Fire Safety Visit. It is also possible to organise a Home Fire Safety Check
A Home Fire Safety Check is a visit to the home to provide advice on how to stay safe from fire.
Each visit will be carried out by at least two staff from NIFRS who will be wearing NIFRS uniform and will carry a NIFRS photographic identification card.
During the visit they will either fit a smoke alarm or show you how to test your existing smoke alarm, explain the potential fire risks in your home, provide fire safety advice and explain the importance of having a night time fire safety routine and a fire escape plan.
The visit will take up to 40 minutes. Sometimes it is useful for a family member, friend, neighbour or care worker to also be present so that they can assist with the advice.
To apply for a Home Fire Safety Check please follow the link below to complete the form.

In the Allianz National Footbal League it was Antrim v Westmeath on Sunday 27th March. Five of our Year 7 boys had the opportunity to travel to Corrigan Park on the day to partake in the Cumann na mBunscol Half Times Games.
They were a credit to their parents, school and clubs playing with great skill and team work. Congratulations boys - the medals look lovely and were very well deserved!
