    Mon 20 Mar 2023

Today we celebrated the Feast Day of St Joseph in school.  St Joseph is the patron saint of our school.  Our Faith Group prepared an assembly for our whole school - it told the story of St Joseph.  We all got to view the assembly virtually in our own classrooms.  Thank you to the Faith Group and Mrs Loughran for sharing this with us today.

Many congratulations to our 4 Year 7 pupils who travelled to St Dominic's Grammar School in Belfast for the latest round of the Sentinus K'Nex Challeges.  Using K'Nex pieces the pupils had to design and build three exciting playground attractions.  Their drawn plans were very impressive and their models met all the requirements of the challenge set.  Well done boys and girls - future engineers in the making!

  • Erasmus Educational Visit 2023

    Thu 16 Mar 2023

We were delighted to welcome our visiting staff and pupils from Denmark, England, France and Spain to St Joseph's this week as part of our Erasmus project on 'Respect and Recycling'.  Fifteen families within our school community agreed to host the visiting children.  We are indebted to these families for their generorsity in helping us with this project.

Day 1 was spent in school.  There was an opportunity to have a tour of the school and nursery unit, listen to traditional Irish storytelling, view the Year 2 St Patrick's Day Show and Irish Dancing, deliver presentations, complete workshops with IZAK9, take part in some traditional Irish sports and have a stroll around the Crumlin village.

On Day 2 pupils and staff travelled to Clandeboye Estate in Bangor to take part in a variety of Forest School activities.  They experienced the four seasons in one day whilst outdoors but still thoroughly enjoyed the range of activities.  Once back, with the pupils safely away with the host families, the staff came together to enjoy a meal out in Belfast.

Day 3 of this busy schedule saw everyone head to Belfast.  Here everyone was treated to a bus tour to highlight the different aspects of 'Respect' in relation to Northern Ireland including a visit to the Peace Walls and Stormont.  Then it was on to W5 and a visit to the Science museum.  The day was finished off by returning to school in order to allow everyone involved with the project the opportunity to celebrate with a traditional Ceili and some homebaked treats.

Day 4 and it was time to head back home.  Thank you and goodbyes said, everyone headed their separate ways to begin the journey home.  We wish all our visiting friends safe travels and thanks everyone involved with the project most sincerely for all their hardwork. commitment and time!

  • Visiting Crumlin Library

    Wed 15 Mar 2023

On Tuesday 14th March Year 4 (COB/RH)  visited Crumlin Library. There are two very nice people called Claire and Iris who help you when you go the library. Claire told us all about the library and what you can do there. We found out that there are two computers just for children to use. You get a special PIN and you can even use them to do research homework or make powerpoints. You can bring a memory stick and save your work to bring to school or show your granny or grandad what you are doing.

There are lots of books that you can borrow from the library. You can take nine books in one go! You can also visit the libraries website and read magazines and newspapers or listen to audio books.

Claire told us that there are events and activities at the library for children. She is going to have a Lego club, so call in and find out when it is going to start. It will be great fun!

We guessed that it would cost a lot of money to join the library. Someone said it would be £20, someone else said £150 or even £300 to join, but the best thing about joining the library is that IT IS FREE for everyone! You even get your own special children’s library card with a fancy design on it and you can check out the books that you want to borrow using their special machine.

Claire read a story to us and then we were able to pick different books to look at and read for ourselves while we were there. Some of us chose fact books and some chose story books and we got to sit on soft chairs while we were reading.

On our way back to school lots of hailstones came down, but luckily we didn’t get too wet. We had a great visit and Claire gave us some forms so that we could join the library and begin to borrow books, use the computers and go to the Lego club. We all really enjoyed our visit. Thanks Claire and Iris.

Congratulation to our Year 5 pupils whose poems have been selected by Roseanna Caswell, editor at Young Writers, for publication in 'The Big Green Poetry Machine - The Future Is Ours'.  This is an amazing achievement for the boys and girls and they were presented with a bookmark, sticker and certificate to mark their achievement.

The collection will be published on 5th May 2023 and each of the children will ttreceive their very own copy.

Well done folks - future poets in the making at St Joseph's!

  • Year 2 St Patrick's Day Concert

    Tue 14 Mar 2023

An amazing concert for St. Patrick's Day from our Year 2 children and Irish Dancers. The atmosphere over the four shows was unbelievable and really made us feel very proud to come from Ireland and celebrate our national saint in style.

Well done girls and boys - what dancing, singing, reciting and acting ..... what a show!
