• Year 6 Visit Crumlin Integrated College

  Our Year 6 pupils recently had a fantastic visit to Crumlin Integrated College, where the theme of the day was "Growth." The day was packed with exciting and enriching activities that sparked creativity, teamwork, and learning.

   

  Pupils explored their artistic side by designing plant pot covers inspired by the vibrant work of Henri Matisse. In drama, they brought scenes from Matilda to life with energy and imagination. Maths took a hands-on twist as students investigated scale and engineered impressive structures using spaghetti and marshmallows. Over in Home Economics, they got creative in the kitchen, making delicious pitta pocket pizzas.

   

  The fun continued outdoors with a variety of sports including badminton, football, and hurling. To top it all off, everyone was treated to hotdogs, drinks, and a visit from the ice cream van — a perfect way to end a memorable morning.

   

  A huge thank you to the staff at Crumlin Integrated College for their warm welcome, engaging workshops, and generous treats - it was certainly a lovely way to spend the morning!

  

• Martina Featherfriend Heads to Garden Show Ireland

  Today, we waved goodbye to our scarecrow Martina Featherfriend as she set off to represent St. Joseph’s at the Antrim and Newtownabbey Garden Show Ireland, held at the beautiful Antrim Castle Gardens.  She will proudly take her place on Really Rubbish Scarecrow Land from 15th–17th June, showcasing the creativity and teamwork of our Year 7 pupils and staff.

   

  We are incredibly proud of everyone involved in bringing Martina Featherfriend to life and wish them the very best of luck in the judging!

   

  MARTINA FEATHERFRIEND

   

  In a field where flowers sway,

  Martina Featherfriend stands both night and day.

  With a hat of straw and a smile so wide,

  She welcomes birds from far and wide.

   

  No scary face or flapping sleeves,

  Just gentle songs on rustling leaves.

  She hums a tune the robins know,

  And waves hello when breezes blow.

   

  Her pockets hold some seeds to share,

  For finches, wrens, and doves with care.

  She’s not a scarecrow — oh no, not she!

  She’s a bird friend, wild and free.

   

  So if you see her standing there,

  With feathers dancing in her hair,

  Say “Hello, Martina!” loud and clear,

  She loves it when the birds draw near!

• Year 6 Boys Visit St. Mary's GBGS

  Our Year 6 boys had a fantastic time visiting St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School in Belfast today! The morning was packed with exciting and educational workshops covering Science, Technology, Sports, and Art — all thoughtfully organised by the dedicated staff at the school.

   

  The boys were also treated to a delicious break, adding to the enjoyment of the day. We are incredibly grateful to St. Mary's for not only hosting such a fun and engaging experience but also for providing transport to and from the event.

   

  A huge thank you to all the staff involved for making the visit so memorable — it was a truly enriching and enjoyable morning for everyone!

  

• Year 1 & 2 Weekly Principal Awards

  Congratulations to our amazing Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils who were presented with the first weekly Headteacher Awards of June! 

   

  These young stars have shown a range of great qualities & skills and set a brilliant tone for the month ahead. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and achievements. Keep shining brightly—well done to each and every one of you!

  

• Antrim and Newtownabbey Girls' Soccer Cup Champions

  🏆 Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council Primary Schools Cup for Girls 2025! 🏆

   

  What an incredible journey it has been for this exceptional group of girls! From the very first whistle to the final penalty kick, they displayed outstanding skill, teamwork, and determination every step of the way.

   

  Their path to glory was paved with dominant performances:

  • First Game: 5 – 0 win
  • Second Game: 3 – 1 win
  • Third Game: 0 – 0 draw
  • Fourth Game: 1 – 0 win
  • Fifth Game: 3 – 0 win
  • Sixth Game: 3 – 0 win
  • Seventh Game: 0 – 0 draw
  • Eighth Game: 3 – 0 win
  • Quarter Final: 4 – 0 win
  • Semi Final: 3 – 0 win

   

  In a thrilling final, the girls showed incredible resilience and composure, drawing 1 – 1 in regular time and holding their nerve in a tense penalty shootout to triumph 5 – 4.

   

  This victory is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unity of a truly talented team and great coaches. Every player contributed to this unforgettable achievement, and they should be immensely proud of what they’ve accomplished.

• Sentinus STEM Experience Day

  Many congratulations to our 4 Year 7 pupils who travelled to South Lakes Leisure Centre, Craigavon for the 'straight to the final' Sentinus STEM Experience Day. 

   

  Pupils took part in two separate challenges.  In the Primary STEM Challenge Rory and Daire had to design and build a air balloon powered vehicle capable of travelling a certain distance.  In the K'Nex Construction Challenge Ronan and Senán had to use K'Nex pieces to design and build a draw bridge with a specified span.  Their drawn plans from both challenges were very impressive and their models met all the requirements set.  After the challenge the children had an opportunity to participate in a workshop about the magic of science led by Mark the Science Guy.  The children were indeed a credit to their school and had a very enjoyable day out!

   

  It's looking like we definitely have future engineers and scientists in the making!

  

• Science Blast @ the ICC Waterfront Belfast

  Our Year 5 pupils had the opportunity to showcase their class investigation projects at ESB’s Science Blast in the ICC Waterfront, Belfast.

   

  The class projects were:

  • Why do we get bumps on our arms when we are cold?
  • How fast can humans run?
  • What are the properties of water?

   

  All three classes presented their work with great confidence using appropriate scientific vocabulary and received lots of excellent feedback from the judging panels.  They were very impressed by the children’s knowledge and skills and how articulate they were in presenting their findings from their chosen areas of study.

   

  Pupils also had the opportunity to view projects from other schools attending, meet Mark the Science Guy and enjoy some amazing science related workshops.

   

  Great learning and fun was had by all.  Well done Year 5 on being such wonderful science ambassadors for St. Joseph's!
