Many thanks to all our Year 2 children and their Parents who attended our Building Bonds Library event. Mr Traynor and Mrs Cunningham spoke about how to support reading at home and Claire Keag from Crumlin Library engaged the children and parents in a big read session. Thank you to Mr O'Brien who organised the session for everyone.
The resources from the event are available in the 'About Us' - 'Key Information' section of our website.
Our Pupil Council recently hosted their annual Fairtrade tuckshop to celebrate ‘Fairtrade Fortnight.’ The council invited Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 classes to visit their tuckshop and buy a Fairtrade product. Children were very pleased to be able to purchase a small Fairtrade chocolate bar or banana to help support farmers in developing countries. Children received a Fairtrade sticker to thank them for their support. All items were 20p and classes really enjoyed supporting and raising more awareness of the Fairtrade cause. It is important to remember that every time you purchase a product with the Fairtrade symbol you are directly helping farmers in other countries to have a better life! Well done everyone!
Our boys and girls celebrated World Book Day in a variety of ways.
Our Nursery children brought a book with them to read, Years 1 & 2 took part in a Luck Dip Read, Year 3 and Year 7 took part in paired reading. Year 4 had a read and relax time, Year 5 found fun places to read around our school and Year 6 got to meet the author Lari Don.
The Competition Choir have been extremely busy, entering two big competitions this term. We took part in the BBC Radio Ulster School Choir of The Year at the start of February and had a fantastic day. It was exciting to be part of a radio production and there were TV cameras too! We also went along to Ballymena Festival where we proudly took 2nd place overall!
Our BBC heat will be on Radio Ulster at 2pm on Sunday 2nd April. There will also be photos from our heat on the Radio Ulster website from that day on. www.bbc.co.uk/schoolchoiroftheyear.
