  • Year 7EA Trip to Fish City Belfast

    Fri 19 Apr 2024

Year 7EA visited Fish City (Belfast) who advocate for a healthy, sustainable approach to incorporating seafood into a healthy lifestyle. To that end they were committed to educating our class on the health benefits of seafood and the importance of sustainability to the long-term future of the fishing industry and the health and viability of  aquatic food systems and marine environments.

We had a lovely tour of St. George’s Market where the local produce is sold. We then went to the educational workshop to find out more! We watched Hal gut a variety of fish and learnt all about his process and the cooking!

Finally we got to taste the catches of the day - Cod in batter, chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce.  DELICIOUS!

We finished our day with a photo opportunity at the Titanic Centre before heading back to school.  A great day was had by all.

  • Peace Players Project

    Mon 08 Apr 2024

Over the last few months we at St Joseph’s PS along with Crumlin Integrated PS have been involved in a Cross Community Workshop with Peace Players.

Through the use of sport, and in particular basketball, this project aimed to promote respect and mutual understanding between children from different backgrounds, as well as addressing controversial issues. The two Year 7 classes involved had already worked together through our Shared Education Partnership, so this was another way of consolidating friendships and visiting each others schools. We also had an opportunity to meet in our local Leisure Centre.

The project was funded by Clanmill Housing Association and we thank them for this valuable opportunity. Our local community in Crumlin also supported us. Tesco Crumlin and Crumlin Resident Collective provided us with some refreshments and Mark at Stylus Engraving Crumlin helped to make up reward bags to celebrate the end of the event by supplying us with medals.

This was indeed a very successful project with new skills learned in addition to having lots of fun along the way!
