Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Many thanks to Mr John Duff from Coco Ice Creams who must have broken a record as he delivered an Ice Cream treat to all the boys and girls (and staff) in our school. It was all in a good cause with a donation being made to Children in Need from St Joseph's!
We have just finished the first week of our 'Only Smarties Have The Answer' Friends of St Joseph's Fundraiser. To date we have had 38 tubes of Smarties returned and a total of £390 collected.
Please keep collecting those 20p coins and returning those Smartie tubes. Let's hit our target of £2,000.
And rememenber, it's not only Smarties who have the answer ....
ST JOSEPH'S HAS THE ANSWER TOO!
Many thanks to Mrs Lawlor's Year 6 class for their wonderful virtual Anti-Bullying assembly this week. The children recited, performed drama and sang 'Reach for the Stars'. Collectively they did a great job delivering and reinforcing a very important message on the importance of the need to 'Reach Out' if and when necesasry and who they can reach out to. Well done Boys and Girls!
Our Year 6 pupils travelled to Mosley Mill on Wednesday to attend a Business Masterclass. They learnt about the supply chain for apple juice and the importance of branding and packaging. They also learnt that higher prices don't necessarily guarantee better taste! They are now in the process of designing their own juice cartons which they will be completed over the coming days and sent back for judging. Well done and good luck boys and girls!
Congratulations to Olivia McArdle Fullerton (Year 7 SMcC) whose Christmas Card Design has been choosen as the official card to be sent from St Joseph's Primary School and Nursery Unit this year. Olivia is celebrating here with Mr Traynor and members of the school orchestra. Well done Olivia!
We started Anti-Bullying Week with an ‘Odd Socks Day’. Children and staff wore a variety of odd socks to school. The emphasis was all about fun, expressing ourselves and celebrating diversity. Thumbs up for a great start to the week
On Thursdy 10th November the Digital Leaders took part in online training on the use of Adobe Express. They each used a Chromebook to follow along with the online trainer. We explored how to use Adobe Express to create a website and a poster. All activities centered on promoting Anti-Bullying week. We will be sharing some of our pieces of work over the coming days.
Year 3 celebrated their Service of Enrolment with a special service lead by Canon Colm and attended by their teachers, classroom assistants and family and friends in Mater Dei Church. The boys and girls were excellent and are ready to progress on the journey of preparation to celebrate the sacraments of First Confession and First Holy Communion. Well done girls and boys!
Today we had a workshop with Lauren from Conradh na Gaeilge where we learnt about the history of Irish place names and how they have been modified over time. We found out that English had a great influence upon Irish place names being changed to the names we know today. We worked in teams with our new friends from Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach, Crumlin Integrated College and Crumlin Integrated PS to try to recognise some of the original Irish names using our knowledge of landscape and history of our local area.
On Tuesday 8th November, the choir attended a rehearsal in the SSE arena for the upcoming Peace Proms Concert. The choir were able to see where they will be performing and they met their conductor for the concert Mr Greg Beardsell. A fabulous experience for our children and they are truly excited for the concert in February.
