Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
The Pupil Council have been busy visiting classes this week to help raise awareness of ‘Fairtrade’. The Pupil Council showed classes what the Fairtrade symbol looked like and talked about what it means. Each class in our school now has their own Fairtrade symbol for their classroom and a fun Fairtrade banana, designed by the Pupil Council, to help us remember about the importance of buying Fairtrade items. The Pupil Council told classes that every time they buy a product from a shop with the Fairtrade symbol on it, people in poorer countries get a bit more money for their hard work. Our school wants to help raise awareness of Fairtrade because it helps people and children in poorer countries have a better life. Thank you to our Pupil Council for their continued hard work and we’ll see them again soon!
To mark ‘National Parliament Week’ our Year 7 children had the opportunity to meet, greet, listen to and question our local councillor Mr Thomas Burns (SDLP). Mr Burns talked to the children about what it is like to be a councillor and how it links to politics in Northern Ireland. Mr Burns answered some great questions from the Year 7s, including ’Have you ever met the Prime Minister?’ and ‘What are you doing to help our local area?’. Mr Burns met members of our Pupil Council and thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of the Yr7 children and listening to what interested them.
Thank you to our wonderful Primary Five children who created a beautiful Prayer Service on the Holy Souls. Thank you to Fr Chris for leading our service, to the community who came together to support it and to Mrs Weldon for the beautiful apple tart afterwards.
