Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Congratulations to all the children and their parents for the vast amount of items which were sent into school to support the charity 'Belfast Homeless' at Christmas. BHS will use the items donated to make up both Male and Female Shoes Boxes and distribute them out during the month of December to groups in society who are vulnerable for many reasons.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity at this time of year - it is very much appreciated!
In Year 4 we have been reading, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” as our class novel and we enjoyed the book so much that we decided to have a special day all about it! Mr Willy Wonka arrived along with Verruca Salt and a very happy Oompa Loompa who was carrying delicious treats. We ate sweets, enjoyed chocolate and buns and watched the movie on the big screen. It really was a most marvellous day with only 2 rules…
Ordinary clothes and sweets & chocolate were compulsory!
Congratulations to Olivia Mc Arlen- Fullerton , P5, who won the annual Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council Mayor's Christmas Card Design. Her beautiful design won her the winning prize in her age group and her prize was delivered to her home by the main man himself - Santa on his sleigh. She is also super delighted with all her new Cool FM merchandise. Very proud of Olivia's achievement - well done!
Many thanks to the Don Hanson Charitable Foundation for their very kind donation of an Eco-Friendly WAU Activity Pack.
This wonderful activity pack contains a variety of hard-backed factual books alongside a variety of interesting competitions to take part in. DVD's and activity kits such as a Magic Beans Kit and Make an Insect Hotel are also included for our use. They will certainly come in useful for us when delivering our WAU lessons and planning our Eco activities for this year.
We started Anti-Bullying Week with an ‘Odd Socks Day’. Children and staff wore a variety of odd socks to school. The emphasis was all about fun, expressing ourselves and celebrating diversity. Thumbs up for a great start to the week!
I first got interested in collecting Blue Peter badges as I have watched other viewers getting presented with their badges on the show. So, I decided that during lockdown I would set myself a target of trying to collect some for myself.
I was actually able to use some of the work my teachers put on See-saw to help me achieve the badges. I earned the iconic blue badge for a painting that I did called Fishy Mc Fish Face that was part of our topic about the ocean. We also had to make a model of a pollution buster to keep the seas clean. I sent a diagram of the model and a video of the model at work in our bath.
This helped me get the green badge. I achieved my 2020 sports badge by participating in the school’s virtual sports day and sent photos to the BBC of me in the sack race and egg and spoon race.
The music badge was designed by ED Sheerin and I earned it by learning to play the trumpet with Mr Tohill. I also had to write about my 3 top favourite songs and what type of music my mum liked! I have now applied for the purple fan club badge. I had to do some fan art and join the fan club online and post a message on the fan club page.
I was asked to suggest what I would do if I was in charge of the fan club for a day. I suggested creating a science badge that can be earned by doing science experiments.
Hopefully I will get my purple badge soon enough!
