Today we had our virtual assembly to mark the end of another month in school.  Today's assemsbly also allowed us to come together virtually to mark Catholic Schools Week.

Mrs Campbell's Year 6 classes prepared a beautiful assembly entitled 'Living Life to the Full' which we were able to share with all of the children.  It helped reinforce the importance of kindness and friendship, how unique we all are with our own gifts and talents and the importance of keeping our beautiful world clean and safe - all key themes of Catholic Schools Week.  Our assembsly also enabled us to mark special celebrations such as birthdays and the presentation of our monthly awards.  It's hard to believe we are almost half way through this school year!

NI Water came today to deliver one of their water butts for us to use in school.  The Eco team welcomed Pat from NI Water, who showed us how it works and explained how important the nutrients in the rainwater are for helping the plants to grow.

The Eco team will be able to monitor how much rainfall it can hold and all classes in the school will be able to use the water gathered for a variety of activities for our outdoor learning and in helping to reuse the water for our outdoor environment.

Thank you to NI Water for supplying this.

  • Mr Grant (Chair of Governors) Visits Year 5

    Wed 12 Jan 2022

When Mrs Sheppard’s class arrived to school on Monday morning there was a mysterious box waiting for them. The children enjoyed guessing what might be inside… some children thought it might be new books for the class or thought tickets to a school trip. Someone even thought it might be a new hat for Mrs Sheppard. Even after the excitement of opening the box, the class were still left guessing. Most of the children were convinced what lay inside, was a mould made out of Weetabix!

Luckily the box came with a note explaining that Mr Grant (Chairperson of the Board of Governors) had come across an empty wasp’s nest in a roof space. He had carefully brought it to Primary 5 for their interest. The children enjoyed researching wasps and their nests, exploring the National Geographic website and some of the documentaries and time lapses of how wasps build their nest.

The children were so grateful.  They invited Mr Grant to come and hear all about what they had learnt and to thank him personally for a great morning of discovery learning.
