Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today Mrs Sheppard’s Primary 3 class and Mrs Loughran Primary 4 classes had a visit from the author Al Mennie.
Al who is best known as a big wave surfer all over the world lives in Portrush. In March he published his latest book called ‘Confident Kris’ aimed at children dealing with anxiety. Both Mrs Sheppard and Mrs Loughran’s class have been carrying out a series of activities related to the book and the character Kris. They have been discussing anxiety as an emotion and situations that the children may find difficult in everyday life. Today the children were able to show case their work and engage in a question and answer session with the author.
Congratulations to all those boys and girls who took part in our Music Recital in the school assembly hall. We enjoyed performances from our Key Stage 2 Senior Choir, School Orchestra, Traditional Group, Guitarists, individual soloists and our school competition choir.
What amazing talent on show. Many thanks to Mrs McDonnell and Mrs Matthews for all their hard work with the boys and girls throughout the year.
Well done to all involved!
Fane Valley, one of Northern Ireland’s leading agricultural companies gave our Year 6 children the opportunity of working together to design some animal sculptures.
The creative educational project is in association with Arts & Business NI and is in conjunction with Arts Care. As part of their new strategic ‘Reach Out’ project to engage with local schools, the farming cooperative secured the services of some Arts Care artists. Clare and Beth carried out an ‘Animal Sculpture Workshop’ with Mrs Wray’s class. The children designed, created and painted farm animals. Children used this opportunity to think about their mental health and well-being.
By engaging in art activities, children were able to relax, talk and be creative in a colourful, fun way.
Catherine from the Amazon Jungle Show was in school today to deliver a presentation to educate and entertain our children in the Nursery, Year 3 and Year 6 on the world of reptiles.
The presentation covered the curriculum on the rainforest canopy, mini beasts, habitats and conservation while children had the opportunity to handle and feel the different texture of reptiles, to include a lizard, snake, frog, gecko, spider, tortoise and chameleon. Mr Traynor even held the snake!
St Joseph’s hosted the first workshop for our Crumlin Glen Engagement Project on Wednesday 1st May.
We were joined by a class from Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach and a class from Crumlin Integrated Primary School.
Over the next few weeks we are going to work together to design a natural play area for Crumlin Glen. We were working with an artist to look at designs from other parks before making our own designs. Next week we will visit the Glen and then we will get to make models of our designs.
After the workshops are completed our designs will be sent to the planners to be created and built up at the Glen.
